Akede Women Orphanage

Akede Women Group
Akede Women Group was started in 1996 by a group of women from Nyakach in Kisumu District-Kenya. The group was registered in 1997 in Kisumu by Ministry of Culture and Social Services.

After a thorough consideration, we thought it wise to start a group to help orphaned children whose parents have died of H.I.V. AIDS. We started with three children and at the moment we have up to 12 children. We provide them with shelter at their homes, food, clothing and take them to school.

The financial support for this children mainly come from our members monthly contributions. But this is not enough as the number of children are increasing. We have invested in some properties (i.e. we purchased a plot of land in Nairobi-Kenya), and at the moment we are constructing a building which we intend to rent out as a long term source of finance to support the children. Part of this building will be our office and classrooms for the older children to learn some vocational skills like Tailoring, Carpentry and Computer operations.

At the moment we are stranded with the construction due to lack of funds and we are looking for donors to assist us to complete the building.

It is our hope that these children will be an asset to our developing country-Kenya as they will be contributing to the development of the country. Their future success will be our pride and to all women all over the world.
